INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONS CUP

It boasts the two largest crowds in U.S. soccer history, the only Clásico ever played on American soil and a list of former champions as regal as any tournament in the world: Real Madrid, Manchester United, Juventus, Inter, AC Milan and FC Bayern. A roster of top scorers that includes Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski. This year, it includes 12 of the world’s most iconic and influential clubs.

It’s the International Champions Cup, the summer’s biggest club competition, and its mix of megastar glamour and debutante mystery is as compelling a proposition as the game has to offer. The ICC, now in its seventh edition, is a crucial component of the soccer calendar for both the game’s luminaries and its next generation of stars. It’s been a launching pad for numerous emerging standouts over the years. Christian Pulisic—aged just 17—scored an injury-time equalizer for Borussia Dortmund against Manchester City in 2016. American Julian Green registered a hat trick against Inter Milan that same summer, just weeks after his twentieth birthday. Sergi Roberto, then a Barcelona reserve, scored the decider in Barça’s 2015 win over the Los Angeles Galaxy in front of 93,000 at the Rose Bowl. Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mané and Ousmane Dembele each took their ICC opportunity to announce themselves as global footballing forces, and Marcos Asensio—perhaps most famously—did the same by finishing off a stunning end-to-end move to score for Real in Miami’s spectacular 2017 Clásico.

The combination of teams and players—legends and young guns traveling to meet, or create, fans in far-flung places—is a recipe for wide-open, attacking-oriented, beautiful football. The ICC brings the greatest clubs, the era-defining players, and the game’s most intriguing prospects to spectators all over the world like no other competition on the planet.

The Format

1. Rules

Matches shall be played in accordance with The Laws of the Game as set by FIFA and these Rules.
These Rules shall be binding on all Participating Clubs.

2. Event Format

The Event shall be a single table format guaranteeing each team three (3) games taking place in multiple venues across North America, Europe and Singapore.The Matches shall be scheduled during the period set out in Rule 1.2 above. Scoring system will be as follows: 3 points for a win, 2 points for a Penalty Kick Win, 1 point for a Penalty Kick Loss and 0 points for a loss.
Tie breakers procedures are as follows:
1. Head to Head
2. Goal Difference
3. Goals For
4. Goals Conceded
5. Result Against Common Opponent
6. Least Amount of Red Cards Issued to the Team (Includes Technical Staff)
7. Least Amount of Yellow Cards Issued to the Team (Includes Technical Staff)
8. Least Amount of Fouls Committed – Tournament Aggregate Total
9. Coin Flip

3. Duration of Play

With respect to each Match:

The duration shall be ninety (90) minutes;
The half-time interval shall be fifteen (15) minutes;
If the match is tied at the end of regulation (90 minutes), the match will be decided by a penalty kick shoot-out in accordance with the rules of FIFA.

4. Substitutes

Not more than Thirty (30) players shall be included on the team sheet for any Match (subject only to pre-existing disciplinary proceedings) consisting of eleven (11) selected players and nineteen (19) eligible bench players of which eleven (11) substitutes may be used at any time during the Match. At the discretion of the referee a 12th substitute may be allowed. Substitutions will be allowed a maximum of three times during the match. Substitutions made at halftime will be counted against the three allowed opportunities. Subject to the conditions set out in Law 3 of the Laws of the Game.

5. Discipline

No cautions or sending offs will carry forward into other competitive matches outside of this Event. Send offs for violent conduct or serious foul play during this Event will be carried into the next Match played by the Club in this Event only.
